Jeffrey Epstein, the millionaire financier who’s being held on federal sex trafficking charges, was discovered injured and in a fetal position in his cell at a New York City jail, sources near the investigation informed NBC News on Wednesday evening.
Epstein was found semi-conscious with marks on his neck in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan sometime in the last two days, the sources stated. Epstein is on suicide watch, two sources stated.
Two sources informed NBC News that Epstein might have tried to hang himself, whereas a third source cautioned that the accidents weren’t severe, questioning whether or not Epstein may need to be staged an attack or a suicide attempt to get a transfer to another facility.
Another source mentioned that an assault hadn’t been dominated out and that another inmate, identified by sources as Nicholas Tartaglione, had been questioned.
Tartaglione, 49, is a police officer in Briarcliff Manor, New York, who was arrested on December 2016 and accused of killing four males in an alleged cocaine distribution conspiracy, then burying their bodies in his yard in Otisville, based on-court data. He was charged with drug conspiracy and four counts of murder and is awaiting trial.
Sources mentioned Tartaglione claimed to not have seen anything and not to have touched Epstein.
A lawyer for Tartaglione denied that his client attacked Epstein, saying that Tartaglione and Epstein acquired along well and that Epstein seemed to be fine on Wednesday.
